Foreword:

Joyful, Celebratory,

Prayerful Poetry

COURAGEOUS is the man who dares rewrite Joyce Kilmer’s ode to a tree. Such a man is Ed Aurelio ‘Ding’ Reyes who twists the Kilmer classic and prays and pleads to "remake this poe-Tree!"

Ding’s poems mirror his journey throughout life, the places and things he has seen, and the people he has known and loved. He is like a wayfarer singing vagabond songs as he wanders the highways and byways of life.

In his poetry, Ding is often joyous, celebratory and prayerful. His poems reveal his sensitive soul and his deep reverence for Nature and God. In his poem "Live!", he exhorts us to revere every leaf and smile at the sun. On a boat in the middle of Batangas Bay, he watches a man adjust the compass and takes the occasion to ponder on Life.

He marvels at the compass and its all-important role in assuring safe passage. "Indeed, we seek to be sure about the direction of our travels," he writes. "Indeed, we ought also to be sure about the direction of our lives!"

Ding has been writing beautiful poetry for many years. This book is his gift to the world. It is, as Ding says himself, "a gift to pass between our souls."
